Money Always Finds Me

Thoughts become things. If you can see it in your mind, you will hold it in your hand. - Bob Proctor

Steve Bailey

Growing up, I was always told "If you think you can, or you think you can't, your right both ways." I never really fully grasped that concept until I started my entrepreneurial journey.

You see, the mind is a powerful beast. Mankind does not fully understand the brain and how it works but we do understand a few simple things.

The Brain Consists of Three Parts

Now I don't want to get into an anatomy and physiology lesson here (although I was Pre-Med for 2 years with 5 years experience in anatomy so I could – but it is boring, so I won't.

But it is important to understand how the brain shapes your reality. Only once you understand that, will you be able to get the reason that I know money will always find me when I need it.

Autonomous Mind

The single most important part of the brain is the brain stem. I say most important because it is the part of your mind that basically keeps you alive. Key bodily functions are handled by the brain stem.  Function like:

  • Blood pressure
  • Heart and breathing rates
  • Body temperature
  • Digestion

All the critically important things to staying alive. This is why the autonomous mind is most important (and also the one that is least under your control).

Conscious Mind

In the conscious mind we think, we reason, we are creative. Virtually every aspect of our lives we are aware of and pay attention to is regulated by different chemical reactions in the conscious mind. This is both good and bad.

The conscious mind helps us understand our world as it exists. When someone asks you "What is 2+2" it is your conscious mind that is able to formulate the response. When you have the desire to write a book, or draw a picture, it is your conscious mind that moves your muscles to perform the task. That's the good.

The bad is because the conscious mind is also the basis of your belief system. Everything you believe to be true (or false) in the world is controlled by your conscious mind. If you believe something that is false is true or something that is true is actually false, you're right. Your reality is defined by your beliefs.

Your Subconscious Mind

The most important part of your brain for helping you get what you want from life is your subconscious mind. You see, your subconscious mind has two very important functions.

First, your subconscious mind is where you dream. It's where you explore all that is – free of your limiting beliefs. It's the part, like your autonomous brain, that you have very little control over but that's the difference. You have SOME control over your subconscious.

Think back to children. Children are born with a fully functional brain stem, a fully functioning subconscious and a developing conscious mind. Children look at the world with wonder and mystery. In the eyes of a child, anything is possible. A child wants to be an astronaut, a fireman, a police man, virtually anything they see, they know they can be.

Why? Because they haven't developed their limiting beliefs yet. Their subconscious mind is always adrift, always creating new realities that, to them, are completely real. It's only when the adults get involved and tell the children that they need to study hard, go to college, and get a good job do the limiting beliefs start to develop.

This is good and bad. A child will touch a hot stove because they have not developed the conscious belief that a stove is hot and will harm them. So we, as adults tell them "HOT" and, eventually (hopefully before they get burned) those synaptic pathways form and the children realize not to touch a hot stove.

Putting This All Together (Finally)

Your subconscious mind has another extremely important job (which is what will tie all these ramblings together). Your subconscious mind directs the FOCUS of your conscious mind.

And I'm going to prove it right now...

Everything associated with your five senses (sight, sound, touch, taste and smell) are processed by your conscious brain. This goes on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your brain is constantly bombarded with sensory input. Right now, the light from your room, the sound of the scrolling mouse, the background noise of the radio or television, all of those sensory inputs are being processed by your brain.

Your subconscious mind has instructed your brain to DELETE all of that sensory data and focus on what's relevant in the moment (reading my article). In fact, now that I've made you aware of these other stimuli your subconscious mind has instructed your conscious mind to start paying attention to them (even if for a brief second).

That's focus.

That's why if you make a commute of any length to work, you cannot always remember every detail of your drive. There were times I would drive to work and not remember which of the two paths I took to get there. My brain was focused on other things and deleted that unnecessary information. However, if a car slammed on its brakes in front of me, my subconscious would immediately shift the focus back so I could react.

Focus is Key

And that is the point. That is at the very core of the Law of Attraction. What you focus on, you attract. This article started with the line "Money Always Finds Me." The reason I can make that bold claim is that I have trained my conscious mind to eliminate the limiting belief of "I don't have enough money." When you say that falsehood, over and over, your subconscious mind focuses on the lack of money and finds ways to make that come true in your reality. You may walk past a $5 bill lying on the sidewalk. You may ignore an opportunity to make some extra money.

I start my day, every day, just saying the simple phrase "Money Always Finds Me When I Need it." It frees my mind to find opportunities to attract money into my life. It reminds me that I have everything I need and if I "WANT" something else, I shouldn't worry about the money because it will find me.

Now that's not to say I should go out and buy a new Tesla (man, I want a Tesla) because there are other limiting beliefs in play about reasonability and frugality but that's a topic for another day. Let's just say that as long as I'm reasonable and because I've got many other systems in place, I can buy anything I want at any time I want and not worry about the money.

Case in point... We just got back from vacation. Because of my Income Hacker habits, I found a way to pay for everything. I got myself a 0% interest credit card on all purchases for 12 months and used that to pay for everything on the trip - the hotel, the car, the food, souvenirs, etc.

I know that over the course of the next 12 months, I will have the money to pay for the vacation so I didn't worry about it and had a great vacation.

Our first visit ever to Disney Hollywood Studios

Two days into the vacation, I get a reminder email that I'm getting a $1,000 one time bonus in my check this year (and because my wife is also a State employee, she gets $1,000 as well).  Boom – $2,000 towards the vacation.  Money always finds me.

So I know I rambled a lot in this post but I hope it helped you. The biggest obstacle to your success is your own limiting belief system. Get out of your own way. Decide, today, that you are going to start focusing on abundance and not on lack. You will be amazed at how quickly your subconscious mind will go to work to bring your imagination to reality.
